For Next Gen Farmer Day, we are highlighting a number of people in the Niagara region that are the future of farming, horticulture and agriculture – but none younger than Hendrik Sikking.
Hendrick has yet to celebrate his 13th birthday, but is already helping operate ‘Roadside Flower Market’, located at 1923 Seventh Street in St. Catharines.
Along with his younger siblings, they build bouquets, pot plants, and set them. While Hendrik mentions working with his siblings can be a lot at times, it hasn’t deterred him from wanting to take on even more responsibilities.
He also owns chickens, and sells the eggs as well. He says he’s always had an interest in his parents’ business, Pioneer Flower Farms.
While hard work has been instilled in him from a young age, Henrik does add that he likes playing with his friends and playing sports in his free time as well.
