Heading into the second leg of Sutherland Cup round robin matchups, the Fort Erie Meteors have as good a shot as possible at making the championship series.
On Friday in their Sutherland Cup opener, the Meteors fell to the Listowel Cyclones 6-1 in Listowel. Saturday, back at their familiar Leisureplex in Fort Erie, the Meteors got by the St. Marys Lincolns 2-1 in overtime, to improve their record to 1-1.
The blessing in disguise for the Meteors came on Sunday, as St. Marys defeated Listowel 2-1, which means all three teams in the round robin now have a 1-1 record.
The Mets are back in action tomorrow night (Wednesday) at the Leisureplex, where they will look to redeem their loss against Listowel – this time on home ice. They then have an off day Thursday, before travelling up to St. Marys for a date with the Lincolns. The final game of the round robin between St. Marys and Listowel goes on Sunday evening.
The top two teams from round robin play will face off in a best-of-seven series to determine the Sutherland Cup champion.
