Fort Erie’s Mayor wants to see urgent care operations at Douglas Memorial Hospital continue after the new South Niagara Hospital is open.
Mayor Wayne Redekop says urgent care is important for that part of the region.
Redekop adds that Fort Erie, depending on weather and traffic, could be as far as half an hour away from the new hospital.
Redekop says he is encouraged to see some provincial candidates that are for urgent care centres like the one in Fort Erie staying open, adding that it’s something that’s a big difference maker for communities that don’t have a full hospital.
Niagara Health has held a number of public information sessions and consultations over the past few months, which Redekop has attended. He says it’s been promising to hear some of the dialogue, but would still like to see a commitment to keeping these sites open.
