Niagara Region’s Automated Speed Enforcement Program is expanding.
This comes as the region has seen positive results since launching the program in September 2023. The program has led to an average 7 km/h decrease in speeds when cameras were first introduced, with a further increase to 9 km/h after the cameras were removed.
In areas where cameras returned for a second rotation, speeding drivers decreased by 86%.
Between January and October 2024, over 48,000 speeding tickets were issued, with fines helping to fund the program and contributing to road safety measures under the Vision Zero initiative.
