Niagara IceDogs forward Kevin He has made history once again.
He signed an entry-level contract with the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets earlier today, becoming the first Chinese-born player to sign an NHL contract in the process.
The three-year contract will see He earn an average annual salary of $975,000 for each of the three years. The IceDogs captain says while it’s an exciting time, he credits his teammates.
When it comes to the historical significance of the signing, He says the importance of that isn’t lost on him at all.
This season, He has 23 goals and 20 assists through the IceDogs first 29 games player. He was drafted by Winnipeg in this past summer’s NHL Entry Draft in the 4th round, 109th overall. He is just the second Chinese-born player drafted to the NHL after Andong Song was picked by the New York Islanders in the sixth round (172nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
