The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has stated that the new negotiation framework presented by Canada Post over the weekend brought the discussions closer to the union’s stance on some issues.
However, the union emphasized that it is still far from a deal that could be ratified by its members.
On Sunday, Canada Post expressed hope that the new proposal would help restart negotiations aimed at ending the strike by 55,000 workers, which has disrupted mail delivery during the critical holiday season.
Despite this, the union issued a statement late Monday, claiming that Canada Post had not made concessions on many of its most contentious demands, which the CUPW describes as the employer’s “most severe.”
