Niagara Regional Police conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks in Niagara Falls and Thorold on Friday night, stopping about 700 vehicles to check for alcohol or drug use.
Eleven drivers provided breath samples, with one young driver’s result exceeding zero and another registering an “Alert,” leading to a three-day licence suspension.
Officers also issued seven tickets, including two for uninsured vehicles.
Notably, over 30% of vehicles stopped were rideshare services like Uber and Lyft.
Impaired driving remains Canada’s top criminal cause of death.
