Asahi Kasei’s $1.7-billion lithium-ion battery separator plant in Port Colborne has officially broken ground – and is the first of its kind in Canada.
The plant is expected to play a major role in Ontario’s growing EV supply chain, boosting local jobs and supporting the production of Ontario-made electric vehicles.
The facility, part of a joint venture with Honda Canada, is set to be completed in 2027 and will produce enough material for one million EVs annually, creating over 300 jobs in the region.
