Four people have been arrested in connection to a string of bank robberies in Ontario, including a Meridian Credit Union in Niagara Falls.
On February 23rd, 2023, two armed, male suspects entered the bank on Portage Road and took off with an undisclosed amount of money. At the time, Meridian Credit Union had a reward for $30,000 for their arrest and conviction, which was later increased to $50,000.
Police investigators say the robberies usually included two or three suspects entering banks just before they closed, wearing different masks in each occurrence. In total, there’s about $2-million that was stolen across eight banks, which has not yet been recovered.
Ontario Provincial Police says in tandem with police forces in Niagara, Barrie, Belleville, Durham and York, eight bank robberies are being investigated, while a ninth was thwarted.
On June 21st this year, three suspects were arrested during an attempted robbery in Field, Ontario, by OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit and the Aviation Unit, with support from OPP West Nipissing Major Crime and CIB. A fourth suspect was arrested on September 25th in Vaughan.
One suspect is still outstanding, 32-year-old Akeem Williams of Ajax. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to not approach him and contact police immediately.
