Niagara Region Public Health has confirmed two cases of influenza, signaling the start of respiratory illness season.
As flu, COVID-19, and other respiratory viruses rise, residents are encouraged to stay up to date with vaccinations to protect vulnerable populations.
Ontario offers vaccination programs for children, seniors, and high-risk individuals. For more information, visit the Niagara region’s website or consult your healthcare provider. Ontario’s public health agency says the province is on track to reach a record number of whooping cough cases this year, the highest number in more than a decade.
Public Health Ontario says there were 1,044 cases reported in 2012, and as of September 9th of this year, there have been 1,016 cases reported.
That’s compared to the five-year average to date of 98.
