Niagara has reported its first human case of West Nile Virus this year.
While many won’t get sick, 20% may experience flu-like symptoms and fatigue, and 1% could face severe issues like intense headaches and confusion.
Older adults and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.
To prevent infection, avoid mosquito bites by draining standing water, fixing screens, and using DEET-containing bug spray.
