Ontario Provincial Police members are in contract negotiations seeking wage increases, as their union argues they’ve fallen behind many municipal counterparts.
A complicating factor is that the last collective agreement expired on December 31st, 2022, and the next contract is supposed to be subject to Ontario’s wage restraint law, which was deemed unconstitutional in late 2022.
The government has appealed, and a ruling is pending, leaving the O-P-P-A bargaining in a period of uncertainty.
