St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe presented the 2024-26 Multi-Year Budget, featuring a 1.49% City tax levy increase.
The new ‘Strong Mayor’ legislation initiates a 30-day amendment period for Council to propose changes.
Siscoe urges residents to actively participate in the discussion, emphasizing the budget’s focus on maintaining services and taxpayer affordability. Siscoe highlighted a reduced $25.52 increase in the average tax bill, compared to the initially proposed $62.71.
He adds that further reductions would result in cuts to services. Through a telephone townhall and public engagement, Siscoe says it was made clear by residents that they are strongly opposed to seeing services cut.
