The Welland Jackfish attracted over 54,000 fans to Welland Stadium in 2024, boosting the Niagara economy by more than $1.9 million.
About 10% of attendees came from outside the region, spanning 4 provinces and 6 U.S. states.
We spoke with President and Director of Fun Ryan Harrison, who is happy the team is being recognized outside the region.
Harrison says a total of 34 baseball players passed through Welland to play for the Jackfish, most coming from outside the region, further enhancing the local economy with their presence and spending.
He adds that it’s about more than being a baseball team.
The Jackfish employ a core staff of three full-time employees, along with 6 interns, 30 game-day workers, and several volunteers during the 2024 season. Harrison adds that many teens from the Niagara region found their first jobs with the Jackfish, with 9 new workers joining the workforce for the first time this season.
Local businesses benefited from over $800,000, while the team also raised over $80,000 for local charities.
