This week’s 23rd Back to School Traffic Safety and Awareness Day in Niagara region saw more than 50 additional police officers including senior officers and those who work in specialty units, participate in patrol duties.
The enforcement blitz was near schools and Niagara’s 13 Community Safety Zones.
176 tickets were written – most for speeding. More than 50 warning notices for speeding were given.
On Louth Street near Valley Road, in St. Catharines, a yellow school bus with five children onboard was clocked at 72 kilometres per hour in a Community Safety zone where the posted speed limit is 50.
The 72 year old driver was charged.
