World Hepatitis Day – On July 28th, 2017 the Niagara Health – Hepatitis C Care Clinic will be hosting our 4th annual World Hepatitis Day community awareness event to be held at Montebello Park in St. Catharines. The goals and objectives of the event are to join our global partners to raise awareness of World Hepatitis Day, hepatitis, liver health. We, along with our community partners, feel it is important to enhance public awareness and education, reduce stigma, acknowledge those affected and explore ways to better address hepatitis B and C in the future. In 2010, the World Health Organization (WHO) made World Hepatitis Day one of only four official disease-specific world health days, to be celebrated each year on the 28th of July. Millions of people across the world now take part in World Hepatitis Day; to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and liver health. Nationally, Canada’s World Hepatitis Day Campaign is led by the Canadian Society for International Health. Canada will be joining with the World Hepatitis Alliance and our Global partners to illuminate landmarks in green around the world to recognize and to raise awareness of World Hepatitis Day. On July 28, 2016 the World Hepatitis Alliance launched the: “NOhep – Make the Elimination of Viral Hepatitis Our Next Greatest Achievement” campaign. The goal is to to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
The Niagara Health System -Hepatitis C Care Clinic campaign theme aligns with the Global “elimination” campaign to encourage individuals to: “Know Your Status, Get Tested, Learn Your Options” with the ultimate goal to “eliminate” hepatitis.
